The Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals (POLYVAC), formerly known as the Sabin Vaccine Production Science Center (POLIOVAC), is a public health service unit under the Ministry of Health. It was established in 1994 based on the Polio Vaccine Production Department of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, pursuant to Decision No. 79/QĐ-BYT dated January 26, 1994, issued by the Minister of Health, and was later reorganized under Decision No. 621/QĐ-TTg dated April 18, 2006, by the Prime Minister. The Center is responsible for researching and producing preventive vaccines and biological products to support healthcare and protect public health. Currently, the Center operates two GMP-compliant vaccine manufacturing facilities in Hanoi and a monkey breeding farm in Quang Ninh for vaccine research and development. At present, the Center produces four types of vaccines: Measles vaccine (MVVAC), Measles–Rubella combined vaccine (MRVAC), oral polio vaccine (bOPV), and Rotavirus vaccine (Rotavin). These are essential vaccines included in the National Immunization Program. The Center has consistently ensured a sufficient and timely supply of these vaccines for routine immunization as well as during disease outbreaks nationwide. Through its contributions, the Center has played a significant role in the eradication of polio in Vietnam and in controlling and progressing toward the elimination of measles and rubella, thereby improving public health. In addition, the Center actively invests in scientific research, strengthens cooperation with domestic and international partners, and adopts advanced technologies such as mRNA for vaccine production. It also develops diagnostic kits, expands healthcare and scientific services to meet the needs of individuals and organizations, and promotes vaccine export activities.
